Doris Elizabeth Elliott
January 11, 1926 - February 01, 2016

Funeral services for Doris Elliott 90, of Guthrie will be held at 1:00 pm Friday, February 5, 2016 at the First United Presbyterian Church in Guthrie. Burial will be at Summit View Cemetery. Services are under the direction of Hayes Funeral Home.

Visitation will be held on Thursday from 10:00 am until 7:00 pm.

Doris was born January 11, 1926 in Webb City, Oklahoma to Burroughs and Eulah Cotten. She died Monday, February 1, 2016 at Golden age Nursing Home.

Doris graduated from Fairfax High School in 1943. She was always proud of the fact she never missed a day of school. This was quite an accomplishment considering she attended many different grade schools and 4 different high schools as the family moved frequently following her father's career with Phillips Petroleum.

On September 11, 1948 Doris married Harold Elliott and started a journey of life that would conclude in a marriage of 53 years. Harold and Doris moved to Guthrie from Stillwater in 1950 and called Guthrie their home the rest of their lives.

Doris was an active member of her church and Community. She served her church as A Sunday School teacher, youth sponsor and was the first female deacon of the First United Presbyterian Church. As a member of Beta Sigma Phi she held many offices and loved to serve on the club's many committees.

Doris' biggest love was that of her children. She was very active in the children's lives. She served as Cub Scout den mother as well as pack leader during her sons scouting years. She also was an active leader to Brownies during her daughter's participation in this group. Doris also loved attending all of her children's activities from sporting events, school plays and concert musicals. Doris' biggest achievement was instilling the love of learning to her children. She instilled in them the excitement of studying, reading or traveling to experience all life has to offer.

Doris was an avid traveler and photographer. She loved traveling the U.S. experiencing its many sights and cultures, capturing all the moments with her many cameras. She especially loved traveling to Yellowstone National Park, visiting the park at least 7 times. After every trip she returned to Guthrie with photographs and stories of something new she and Harold had discovered.

She was also an avid sports fan. She followed the OSU Cowboys, Dallas Cowboys, OKC Thunder, St. Louis Cardinals, Chicago Cubs and Atlanta Braves. She once said if you weren't watching a baseball game there was no reason to turn on the TV.

Survivors include son Hal of Guthrie and daughter and son-in-law Lisa and Sonny Rose of Edmond.

She was preceded in death by husband Harold, sons Steve, Scott and Jim, parents Burroughs and Eulah Cotten, brother William and sister Phyllis.

Friends and family may sign the online guestbook at www.hayesfh.com.

In lieu of flowers the family requests donations be made to the First United Presbyterian Church, 102 East Noble, Guthrie, OK 73044.
