Funeral services for Alice Ellen Crooks, 98, of Guthrie will be held at 10:30 a.m. Friday, March 14, 2003 at First Christian Church of Guthrie with Dr. Dennis E. Clark of First Christian Church officiating. Burial will follow in Summit View Cemetery under the direction of Smith Funeral Home.
Alice was born Oct. 9, 1904 in Longton, Kan. to Charles and Dora Gowing. She died Tuesday, March 11, 2003 at Cole's Rest Haven in Guthrie.
Alice was a member of the First Christian Church of Guthrie and sang in the choir for several years. She was in charge of the nursery for 35 years and delivered mobile meals. She was active in the following organizations for 50 years; Domestic Science Club, the Logan County Retired Teachers Association; Spade and Trowel Garden Club; Delta Kappa Gamma; Eastern Star; Christian Women's Fellowship; PEO and American Legion Auxiliary.
Alice taught in the first Head Start Program and taught kindergarten for two years. She worked with both the Boy and Girl Scouts and served as President of the Girl Scout Council. She was chairperson of the Ladies Committee at the Masonic Temple for Consistory receptions, and served as Logan County Polio chairman.
Survivors include one daughter, Sue Ellen Perry and husband Donald Neuner of Guthrie; one son, Charles Crooks and wife Angie of Guthrie; one half-brother, Charles Gowing and wife Sandy of Carrollton, Ga.; three grandchildren; Melodie Adlof of Rowlett, Texas, Chuck Crooks and wife Kelly Lynn of Cushing and Kelly Anne Connelly and husband Greg of Guthrie and five great-grandchildren; Blake Roberts, Brandon Roberts and Jarrett Adlof, all of Rowlett, Texas; Keaton Crooks of Cushing and Zac Connelly of Guthrie. She was preceded in death by her husband, parents and a brother, Carlisle Gowing.
Visitation for family and friends will take place Thursday, March 13 until 8 p.m.
Memorials may be made to the organ fund of the First Christian Church, 402 E. Noble, Guthrie OK 73044.
