Died: August 24, 2010

Funeral services for Eulah Gladys Coburn, 102, of Guthrie, OK, will be held at 2:00 p.m. Friday, August 27, 2010 at the First Southern Baptist Church with Pastor David Nolen officiating. Interment will follow at Summit View Cemetery, Guthrie, under the direction of Smith-Gallo Funeral Home, Guthrie.

Eulah G. Coburn was born southeast of Guthrie, near Meridian, OK on February 11, 1908 to James A. and Mary Ellen (Fullerton) Starks. She passed away Tuesday, August 24, 2010 at Logan Medical Center.

She attended school at McKinley and Meridian (both in Logan County), and Leesville, Louisiana, where she graduated from high school. Eulah attended Central State in Edmond, OK where she received a life-teaching certificate and then obtained a B.S. degree from Benedictine Heights in Guthrie. She taught in Logan County rural schools (McKinley, Union Valley, Camp Russell and Centerview) for 25 years, then Guthrie Public schools for an additional 10 years.

She married Wheeler Coburn on December 31, 1932 and to this union two sons, Lawrence and James W. "Bill" were born.

Eulah was a member of the First Southern Baptist Church of Guthrie where she taught Sunday school for many years. She was also a member of Meridian Extension Homemakers and the Logan County Retired Teachers Association. She loved to garden, cook, and sew and won many blue ribbons competing at the Logan County Fair where she entered canning, fresh vegetables, and clothing she had made.

She was preceded in death by her husband, Wheeler on January 3, 1969, by brothers, James C. Starks, Otis Starks, and Roy Starks, and by sisters, Ruby Tedder, Lillie Smith, Gertrude Kinder, Mary Smith, and Marie Peaslee.

She is survived by her son, Lawrence and wife, Judy Coburn of Guthrie, and granddaughter, Dianne and husband, Rhys Williams and great grandchildren, Rhyan, Rhory, and Rhyk Williams, all of Amarillo, TX and grandson, Wheeler and wife, Von Coburn of Guthrie; her son James W. "Bill" and wife, Karen Coburn of Guthrie, and granddaughters, Lisa Coburn and Gina Morris of Stillwater, OK and grandson, James W. Coburn Jr. of Omaha, NE; her brother Archie and wife, Ruth Starks of Meridian; a sister, Maudie Simpson of Alameda, CA; a sister-in-law Edna Deadwiley of Guthrie; many nieces, nephews, and friends; and a very special friend, Olive Hixon.

In lieu of flowers the family requests donations be made to the First Southern Baptist Church of Guthrie in her memory.

Visitation will be held at Smith-Gallo Funeral Home on Thursday, 11:00 a.m. - 8:00 p.m.
