Hoppy Chandler, 87, of Edmond, OK, was born November 29, 1929 in Navina, OK, to Arnold and Velma (Donihoo) Chandler. He passed away Wednesday, August 30, 2017 in Guthrie, OK.

He married Lela Ruth Biggs on August 4, 1951. They were married for 66 years.

Hoppy was a retired Guthrie Police Officer serving 20 years on the Force, beginning his career in 1951 and retiring from the Guthrie Police Department in 1971. He retired with the rank of Lieutenant. Hoppy went to work as a Security Officer for Federal Reserve Bank in Oklahoma City and retired from this position in 1992, serving 17 years.

Hoppy believed in and accepted Jesus Christ as his Lord and Savior at a young age.

He was an avid golfer with 8 holes in one. Hoppy had many friends on the golf course and never met a stranger.

Hoppy is preceded in death by his parents, Arnold Odel and Velma Olive (Donihoo) Chandler; his siblings, Laverta Miller and Willard Chandler who served in the US Navy; his daughter, Shirley (Chandler) Anderson; and his grandson, Curtis Kent Smith.

He is survived by his wife, Lela Ruth Chandler of the home in Edmond; his son, David Chandler of Oklahoma City, OK; his grandsons, Brad Chandler and wife, Amy of Wylie, TX and Cory Don Taylor and his wife, Jennifer of Fort Hood, TX; Great-Grandson, Patrick Chandler of Wylie, TX; Great-Granddaughter, Emily Campbell Anderson of Wylie, TX;his son-in-law, Lindsey Anderson of JOnes, OK; his nephews, Don Gayer and wife, Marilyn Gayer of Oklahoma City, OK; Mark Harris and his wife, Jenny of Humble, TX; and Steve Harris and his wife, Lynn Harris of Pennsylvania. He is also survived by his sibling, Illene Harris and husband, Jay of Marble Falls, TX, and son in law, Lindsey Anderson of Jones, OK.

Funeral services will be held at 10:00 A.M., Wednesday, September 6, 2017 at Smith Memorial Chapel with Chaplain Gene Owen officiating. Interment will follow at Summit View Cemetery. Services are under the direction of Smith-Gallo Funeral Home, Guthrie.

Visitation will be held Tuesday, 11:00 A.M. – 8:00 P.M.

In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to the Fallen Herosin Hoppy's name.
