Zella Opal Biggs
Born: November 30, 1919
Died: January 26, 2011

Zella Opal (Williams) Biggs, 91, was welcomed into her Heavenly home with her Lord and Savior Jesus Christ on Wednesday, January 26, 2011 at Willow Creek Nursing Center, Guthrie, OK.

Zella was born on November 30, 1919 near Rankin, OK (now Reydon), one of seven children born to Edwin H. and Lula May (Garver) Williams. She grew up on the family farm in the Reydon area and graduated from Reydon High School. After graduation she moved to the Guthrie area to attend business school. She lived with family friends and worked for them as a housekeeper and nanny for their grandchildren.

Zella married Ralph W. Biggs November 30, 1945 in Guthrie and became a farmer’s wife working beside her husband on the farm southwest of Guthrie and was a homemaker and step-mother to Ralph’s five children. She loved these children as much as if they had been her own. Later when the children were older, she used her business skills and worked in Guthrie at Jelsma Abstract and retired after working around 30 years as a teller and bookkeeper for First State Bank which later became First Capital Bank.

Zella took many trips in all directions of the United States visiting friends and relatives and sight seeing. After retiring she spent much of her time working in her flower gardens. She was expecially proud of her day lilies, irises, and roses and could tell you the names of most of them.

Zella is survived by two step-sons Lawrence Biggs and wife Sharron of Guthrie and Jerry Biggs and wife Judy of Arlington, TX; one sister Ina Cole of Oklahoma City, OK; one sister-in-law Louella Williams of Guthrie; two daughters-in-law Alverna Biggs of Guthrie and Shirley Biggs of Tahlequah, OK; sixteen grandchildren; twenty-nine great-grandchildren; twenty-eight great-great-grandchildren; and many relatives and friends. Zella loved her family very much and would show pictures and tell you about them every chance she got.

Zella is preceded in death by her parents, husband Ralph W. Biggs, two step-sons James Biggs and Harold Biggs, one step-daughter Mary L. Williams, one grandson Randy Biggs, two sisters May Gillispie and Goldie Parks, and three brothers Lee Williams, Vernon Williams, and Clarence “Jack” Williams.

Funeral services will be held at 9:30 a.m., Saturday, January 29, 2011 at First Southern Baptist Church with Pastor David Nolen officiating. Interment will follow at Summit View Cemetery, Guthrie. Services are under the direction of Smith-Gallo Funeral Home, Guthrie.

Memorials may be made to First Southern Baptist Church. Visitation will be Friday, 10:30 a.m. - 8:00 p.m.

The family wants to thank Dr. Bhakta and staff at Logan Medical Center and Companion Hospice staff at Willow Creek Nursing Center for her wonderful care.
