August 17, 1929 - December 01, 2014


Byron Richard "Poppy" Beard, age 85, of Meridian, Oklahoma passed away at his home on December 1, 2014. He was born on August 17, 1929 in Coffeyville, Kansas to James A. and Opal Beard.

Byron married Viola Scarborough on December 11, 1968 in Las Vegas, Nevada. He retired from Western Electric and had lived in Meridian for 36 years.

Survivors include his wife Viola of the home, his 3 children, Pam Fisher of Coyle, Kathy Ward and Brandy Lawson and husband Danny of Guthrie. Poppy is also survived by his 6 grandchildren, Dena Fisher, Christopher Biggs, Chuck Ward, John Charles Ward, Acacia Beard, and Brayden Lawson and 2 brother-in-laws, Paul Scarborough and Allen Scarborough. He was preceded in death by his parents, 3 sisters and 1 brother.

Graveside services will be held at 2:00 PM, on Thursday, December 4, 2014 at Summit View Cemetery with Rev. Gwen Stewart and Rev. Everett Mack officiating. Services are under the direction of Hayes Funeral Home.
