Died: April 19, 2008

Jeffrey David Austin, 30, died Sunday, April 20, at Hiram Davis Medical Center in Petersburg, VA, where he had resided for several years. Jeffrey had been left severely handicapped by a near-drowning accident at the age of three.

Jeffrey was born in Houston, Texas, on January 18, 1978. He is survived by his mother and step-father, Connie (Lester) Sullivan and Ronald Sullivan, Kerrville, TX, and his father, CAPT David Austin, USN (Ret), Fairfax, Virginia. His parents are both former Guthrie residents. He is also survived by his sisters and brothers-in-law, Carrie and Mac McHugh of Little Elm, Texas, and Amanda and Corey Jernigan of Dallas, Texas, and a niece and nephew, Megan and Mitchell McHugh. He was the grandson of the late Connie Mack Lester and Ella Lester, formerly of Guthrie, and the late Paul and Betty Austin, of Guthrie.

In lieu of flowers, the family asks that you consider a memorial donation to St. Mary’s Home for Disabled Children, 6171 Kempsville Cr., Norfolk, VA 23502, or to a children’s charity of your choice.

Mass of Christian Burial will be held at 10:00 a.m., Friday, April 25, 2008 at St. Mary’s Catholic Church with Father Steve Austin officiating. Burial will follow at Summit View Cemetery. Services are under the direction of Smith-Gallo Funeral Home, Guthrie. A prayer vigil will be held at 7:00 p.m., Thursday, April 24, 2008 at Smith Memorial Chapel. Visitation will be held at the funeral home Thursday, 1:00 p.m. – 7:00 p.m.
