Charles Joseph Ryan

Born: August 15, 1926
Died: March 20, 2012

Charles Joseph Ryan was born August 15, 1926 in Burden, KS to Charles W. Ryan and Alice Pickens Ryan. He graduated from Burden High School in May 1944. He volunteered for service in the U.S. Navy. His services began on August 23, 1944. He served as a machinist mate 3rd class on the U.S.S. Albert W. Grant DD-649, a Fletcher class destroyer, in the Pacific Theater of operations during WWII. His ship was assigned to the 7th fleet. His ship participated in several invasions during the liberation of the Philippine Islands and also during the invasion of Borneo. He also served during the occupation of Japan after WWII. He was honorably discharged from the Navy on June 8, 1946.

He was joined in Holy Matrimony with Betty Irene Bourne on July 24, 1946. In 1948, he started working for Texaco, Inc. and worked as a roustabout and production foreman for 34 years in the oilfields of Kansas and Oklahoma.

Most of his friends and family knew him as Joe Ryan. Joe was a faithful husband and father. Joe and wife, Betty, were active members of the Baptist church wherever they resided. Joe served at Lakeside Baptist Church until his illness as church treasurer, Sunday school teacher, and deacon. He enjoyed fishing, hunting, and taking his family on many memorable vacation trips. During his time of retirement, Joe and Betty were able to take a vacation to Hawaii and Israel. It was important to Joe that each member of his family have a personal relationship with Jesus. Joe passed from this life after a short illness and joined his Lord and Savior Jesus Christ in eternity on March 20, 2012.

Joe is survived by Betty Irene Ryan, his wife of 65 years; a son Charles B. Ryan and wife Melinda of Tulsa, OK; and a daughter Sandra J. Admire and husband Larry of Edmond, OK. He is also survived by three sisters, Lorene Cunningham of Derby, KS and Leola Teel and Lucille Gardner both of Wichita, KS. He is also survived by four grandchildren and five great-grandchildren.

Funeral services will be held at 11:00 a.m., Tuesday, March 27, 2012 at Lakeview Baptist Church, Guthrie, OK with Pastor Tracy Pennington officiating. Interment will follow at Memory Gardens Memorial Park Cemetery. Services are under the direction of Smith-Gallo Funeral Home, Guthrie.
