Loydene Marie Lantz Cain, 71, of Guthrie, Oklahoma, passed away Saturday, December 9, 2017 in Guthrie. Loydene was born on March 22, 1946 in Wheatland, Wyoming to Lloyd M. and Rose M. (Thomas) Lantz and raised in Glendo, Wyoming.

She was very active in high school and was a cheerleader all 4 years and represented her class in student council for three years. Loydene was also chosen to attend Wyoming Girls State as a Junior and was a member of 4-H in Junior High and High School. She participated in softball in high school and her first year of college and was chosen homecoming queen her Junior and Senior year of high school. Loydene's hobbies included hunting, fishing, water skiing, camping, archery, and skeet shooting. She was at one time, the youngest member of the Rocky Mountain Gun Club in Casper, Wyoming and was inducted at the age of ten. She had the honor of receiving Who's Who Among High School Student's her Junior and Senior year of high school. She played in the band and dance band for four years and was the drum majorette of the marching band for two years.

Upon graduating from high school, Loydene entered nursing school and graduated from West Nebraska General Hospital School of Nursing, an affiliate of the University of Nebraska in 1967. She also attended the University of Wyoming, the University of Alaska, and the University of Central Oklahoma in pursuit of higher degrees.

Loydene married Samuel Cain, Sr. of Scottsbluff, Nebraska. They moved a lot for Sam's work as a civil engineer. She and Sam had three children, Sam Jr., Lisa, and Codi. She worked in many areas of nursing including surgery, labor and delivery, orthopedics, neurology, medical-surgical, women's health and public health as well as working for a nursing school and at the Job Corps. Loydene received the honor of Who's Who Among American Nurses in 1979, 1982, and 1990. She was one of the nurses participating in the development of Oklahoma's Board of Nursing's DNEG Diversion Program. She also served on several nursing advisory boards for Indian Meridian Technology's Licensed Practical Nursing Program and Langston University Registered Nursing Program. Loydene also volunteered for the March of Dimes and the American Cancer Society for many years. Loydene was licensed as a Registered Nurse in six states including Oklahoma, Wyoming, Nebraska, Colorado, Alaska, and Arizona.

Her most memorable nursing moment was in Alaska where she worked with a surgeon in Alaskan villages. They flew to the various locations and went by dog sled or snow mobile from the landing sites to the clinic sites. She worked fulltime in the largest Alaskan Hospital as a Staff Development Specialist preparing newly graduated RN's for their first professional job in a hospital on Med-Surg and Post Op Surgical floors. She was also chosen to represent nursing in developing and opening a new hypothermia / burn unit, the first in Alaska and the entire United States. Loydene and Sam were active in their childrens' activities and organizations such as Boy Scouts, Blue Birds, 4-H, baseball, and cheerleading. She also served as homeroom Mom in the various grades they were in.

Loydene is preceded in death by her husband, Sam; her parents; and her granddaughter, Kristina Canning. She is survived by her son, Samuel and daughters, Lisa Cain and Codi Canning and husband, Dane as well as her grandchildren: Corey Cain of New York City, New York, Christian and Ashley Cain of Enid, Oklahoma, Garret Canning and wife, Courtney and Caleb Canning, all of Guthrie, Brent Walton and wife, Keri of New York, Matt Byce and wife, Micheala of Japan, and Kyle Sears of Guthrie. Loydene is also survived by her great-grandchildren, Kaylynn Canning of Guthrie and Easton and Kennedy Byce of Japan.

Graveside funeral services will be held at 1:00 P.M., Thursday, December 14, 2017 at Memory Gardens Memorial Park with Chaplain Gene Owen officiating.
