Norval Robert Gooch

Norval Robert Gooch was born February 25, 1924 in Mulhall, OK to Willard Forest & Ella Mae (Coffin) Gooch. He graduated from Crescent High School in 1942 and attended Oklahoma A & M in Stillwater. A veteran of WW II, Norval served in the Army as a Tech Sergeant. He married Etta Dusa Tharp on July 7, 1945 in Guthrie, OK.

Norval was a successful businessman. He owned & operated Gooch Gas & Appliances, was a partner in the Liquitane Corporation, a loan officer at the First National Bank and owner & operator of the Coast to Coast Hardware store. He was also a farmer and rancher and owned & operated Gooch Sawmill. Norval loved his family, hunting, fishing & traveling.

He was a member of Jaycees, Lion’s Club, Moose Lodge, a 63 yr. member of Guthrie Masonic Lodge #35 A.F. & A.M. and an over 50 yr. member of the American Legion.

Norval is survived by his wife of 68 years, Dusa; his son Rex and wife Karen of Parker, CO, his daughter Denise and husband Philip and daughter Pamela Smith all of Guthrie, OK; grandchildren Amy Gooch of Centennial, CO, Russell Thomas and wife Lisa of Englewood, CO, Ginger & husband John Lijewski and Brandy and husband Steve Pearce all of Guthrie, OK, Scott Smith and wife Susan of Edmond, OK, and Katresa and husband Joel Montejano of Oklahoma City, OK. He is also survived by 8 great-grandchildren, Chandler DeBenedictis, Samantha & Jack Thomas, Philip & Breena Lijewski, Blake Pearce, Baden Smith and Lily Montejano, as well as numerous nieces, nephews, family & friends.

He was preceded in death by parents Willard and Ella Gooch, brothers Forest & Dwayne Gooch, nephew Ray Gooch & son-in-law Douglas Smith.

Funeral services will be held at the First Southern Baptist Church in Guthrie on Tuesday, April 1, 2014 at 2:00 PM. Internment will follow at Lawrie Cemetery. Services are under the direction of Smith-Gallo Funeral Home, Guthrie.

Visitation will be from 12:00 PM to 8:00 PM, Monday, March 31st and Tuesday morning 8:30 AM to 11:30 AM at Smith-Gallo Funeral Home, Guthrie. The casket will not be open after the service.
