Betty Marie Abell

Betty Marie Abell, 92, passed away June 8, 2016. She was born March 6, 1924 in Carney, OK to George Washington Stump and Vernie Marie (Robertson).

Betty married Charles Romaine Abell from Guthrie in July 1939. They farmed together up until Romaine’s death in 1984. During their time on the farm, Betty became the food service director for Guthrie Public Schools and was involved in Guthrie Round Up Club and Eastern Star. After Romaine passed away, Betty moved to town and traveled Western Europe and most of the United States. Her passion was visiting with family and friends and gardening. Her family will remember her for her unending warmth and kindness and last but not least, being a fantastic cook. She was unofficially the world’s best grandma.

Betty is preceded in death by her husband Romaine, daughter Patricia Ann, brothers George Jr., and Russell Clyde Stump.

Betty is survived by her grandchildren: Robert Charles Heckenkamp of Guthrie, OK, Jennifer Lynn Mason and husband Shawn of Guthrie, OK; great grandchildren; Rachel Ammons, Parker Mason, and Mallory Mason of Guthrie, OK; brother Donnie Stump and wife Margaret of Yukon, OK, as well as nieces, nephews, family, and friends.

Graveside services will be held at 10:30 A.M. on Saturday, June 11, 2016 at Lawrie Cemetery with Shawn Mason officiating.

The casket will not be open at any time.

Services are under the direction of Hayes Funeral Home.

In lieu of flowers, memorials can be made to Peppers Ranch, P.O. Box 3814 Edmond, OK 73083.
