Reuben Hider
Born: October 25, 1940
Died: March 28, 2009

Reuben Hider was born October 25, 1940 to Gabe Hider Jr. and Geneva Hawkins Hider. He was the second son and fifth of eleven children born to this union.

Reuben accepted Christ at an early age and was baptized at Rising Sun Baptist Church.

Born and raised in Oklahoma, Reuben attended L’Oveture in Meridian, Oklahoma and graduated from Faver High School in Guthrie, Oklahoma in 1958. After graduation, he enlisted in the United Stated Army where he spent four years. He then enlisted in the United States Navy where he fought in Viet Nam. During his career, he was stationed in Beeville, TX, Norfolk, VA, Atsauge Bay, Japan, and Virginia Beach, VA. He retired from the Navy in 1981 and moved to Houston, Texas.

Age 41 was too young to retire, so he worked for Xerox for 10 years. Still too young to retire, he went to work for Brinks Security Company. He retired in November, 2008 from Harris County Toll road.

Reuben and Gloria Ann Harding were married in January of 1964 and they were soul mates for 44 years. Two children were born to this union, Reuben Jr. and Ruquindolyn Lafaye Hider. He was very family oriented and always helped when and where he could. Everybody stayed with “Uncle Reuben”, as he was affectionately called, whether they were down on their luck, needed a place to stay, or just visiting for a while.

Reuben was called home on Saturday, March 28, 2009 in Baytown Texas. His father, Gabe and mother, Geneva Hider, four sisters: Helen Louise Hider, Ovanda Maria Hider Coleman, Charmetrea Hider Kennedy, and Verna Hider Mack, two brothers: Frank C. Hider and Gabe J. Hider III preceded him in death.

He is survived by his wife Gloria Ann; two children – Reuben Hider Jr. of Atlanta, GA and Ruquindolyn L. Hider of Houston, TX; six grandchildren – Froncenick J. Hider, Michael J. Hider, Jiotay J. Hider, Cammaron J. Hider, Quiniechia L. Hider, and Najae L. Marks; four siblings - Julia Hider Harding and Margaret Hider Hunter both of Edmond, OK, Juanita Hider Roper of Wichita, KS, and Quincy L. Hider of Lake Charles, LA; two aunts – Emma P. Hider Hopkins and Dorothy Harding, both of Oklahoma City, OK ; his best friend – Willie Barnes; and a host of nephews, nieces, and other relatives and friends.

We will miss him on this earth but have the assurance that we will one day meet again.

Graveside funeral services for Reuben Hider, Sr., 68, of Houston, TX will be held at 11:00 a.m., Friday, April 3, 2009 at Harding Family Cemetery, Guthrie, OK. Services are under the direction of Smith-Gallo Funeral Home, Guthrie.
