Robert M. "Bob" Wentworth

Robert M. "Bob" Wentworth was born in Enid, OK on January 11, 1932 to Milton and Wilma Wentworth. He was baptized at the age of 12 at Davis Park Christian Church. He graduated from Enid High School in May 1950. He joined the 45th division National Guard, HQ Battery 189th Field Artillery in June 1950 and went on active duty in August 1950 when the division reported to Fort Polk, Louisiana for basic training. On December 30, 1950 he married the love of his life, Shirley Dahlin in Davis Park Christian Church while on a holiday 72 hour pass prior to being shipped to Japan in April 1951 and then to Korea in December 1951, where he served until June 1952 and was then released from active duty.
He then worked at Otis Phillips Printing Company as an apprentice printer until 1957 when he received his journeyman's card. He stayed in the National Guard and was promoted to second lieutenant in April 1957. He went to two schools at Fort Sill. Upon graduation in December 1957 he went to work in Oklahoma City for Photo Stat Corporation selling and servicing printing presses. In 1961 he worked as print shop manager for Wise Remembrance. In 1964 he started his own print shop Wentworth Printing.
In 1972 the family moved to Crescent, OK. In 1980 he sold the print shop and worked for Ernies Oil and Tool Company. In 1984 he worked at the Kerr-McGee Crescent Plant as a security guard until he retired in June 1997. He also retired from the 45h National Guard in 1972 with the rank of major.
At age 51 he took flying lessons and got his pilot's license. He loved flying, he also love to hunt and fish.
He was a charter member of Cherokee Hills Christian Church in Oklahoma City, where he helped purchase the land and start the church, serving as a deacon. He also served as deacon at Davis Park Christian Church and most recently served as deacon at the Crescent Christian Church.
Bob is survived by his wife, Shirley of the home; one son, David Wentworth; granddaughter Chelsea and her mother, Charessa of San Diego, California; one brother, Don and his wife Vondie of Enid, OK; two nephews; two great nephews and one great niece.
Funeral services will be Thursday, July 7, 2005 at 2:00 p.m. at the First Christian Church in Crescent with Pastor Keith Gordon officiating. Burial will follow at the Crescent Cemetery under the direction of Abernathy Funeral Home in Crescent. (Paid Obit 7-6-1)
