Vivian Aline Ransford Tontz, 97, went to be with her Lord and Savior on Oct 2, 2012. She was born to Roy and Lillian Martin Ransford on Feb 6, 1915 in Crescent, OK. Vivian and Florian Frederick “Fred” Tontz were married on June 23, 1933 and resided on the farms southeast of Crescent until moving to Crescent in 1965. She worked for the U.S. Postal Service and was the first woman to work at both Crescent and Guthrie. Vivian was preceded in death by her husband, parents, sister, Mae Lindgren; and four of her five brothers, Roy “Bud” Ransford, Leslie Ransford, Francis Ransford and Robert Ransford. She is survived by three daughters and one brother: Joyce and husband, Wight Jones, Edmond, OK; Ruth Tontz McGuire; Rosalie and husband, Dr. Gary Rahe of Oklahoma City; and, her brother W. M. “Mart” Ransford, wife, Imogene, Crescent, OK. She is the proud grandmother of five grandchildren and six great-grandchildren: Rev. Mark Jones, wife Diane of Darlington SC, and great-grandchildren Sierra Jones, Dallas, TX, Garrett Jones, Stillwater, OK; Dr. Ann Jones, and great-grandsons Matthew and Rhys Davis of Tucson, AZ; Brian K. McGuire, wife Anita, and great-grandson, Guy Frederick McGuire of Claremore, OK; Greg Rahe and wife Lupita, of Ascension Bay, Punta Allen, Yucatan, Mexico; Dana, husband Roland Richards, and great-granddaughter, Olivia Butler of Portland, OR. A native of Crescent, Oklahoma, she graduated from Crescent High School in 1932. Vivian was active in her beloved First Baptist Church. She was a long time member and teacher of the Homemakers Class. She was a lifelong member of the Garden Club. An excellent seamstress, she made her daughters pretty dresses and lovely gowns for their many events. Vivian was very artistic and entertained her daughters on rainy days by drawing pictures as well as sketching paper dolls for her girls. She made her home pleasant and comfortable. As one of the older daughters in her family, she learned to cook at an early age. Thus, she was a fantastic cook and gardener who enjoyed sharing her homemade bread and vegetables with family and friends. Vivian lived a long and full life. She especially loved telling others about Jesus as she enjoyed her Cedar Vale, Crescent and Guthrie communities. Funeral services will be Monday, Oct 8, 2012 at 10:00 am, First Baptist Church, Crescent, Oklahoma. Graveside services to follow at Crescent Cemetery. Abernathy Aaron Funeral Home In lieu of flowers the family requests that donations be made to the First Baptist Church of Crescent Oklahoma (Building Program).
