Leonard L. Tontz
(June 30, 1918 - March 20, 2007)

Leonard LeRoy Tontz died March 20, 2007 in Guthrie, Oklahoma at the age of 88 years, 8 months and 20 days. He was born on June 30, 1918 on the family farm in Guthrie to Florian and Rosina (Flutsch) Tontz. On December 8, 1938 he married his wife of 68 years, Edna Mae Marrs in Crescent, she preceded him in death on March 1, 2007.

Leonard was born, raised and lived his entire life on the family farm southeast of Crescent. He loved raising a garden, raising cattle, (especially holstein steers), cutting wood and playing dominoes at the Crescent Dominoes Parlor. He also enjoyed traveling, his family, especially his grandchildren and great grandchildren. In 1953 he was baptized in the First Christian Church of Guthrie and later became a member of the First Christian Church in Crescent. He and his family also attended the Abell Community Church for many years. Leonard drove the Abell School Bus and served as a volunteer coach for the Abell School children from 1953 until 1968.

Survivors include, two sons, Robert Tontz and wife Mary Jane of Guthrie; Len Tontz and wife Linda of Guthrie; one daughter, Alma Hopkins and husband Jimmy of Guthrie; seven grandchildren, Jeff Hopkins and wife Gea of Peidmont, Greg Tontz and wife Laura of Goldsby, Kristin Boyett and husband Ken of Edmond, Melissa Fawcett and husband Doug of Denver, Ginger Laxton and husband Jeff of Cuba, MO., Loy Tontz and wife Kacie of Guthrie, Brandon Tontz and wife Jill of Guthrie and twelve great grandchildren.

He is preceded in death by his parents, his wife Edna Mae, four brothers, John, Elmer, Flornie and Benjamin Tontz; six sisters, Anna Dodd, Esther Helton, Alma Rhoades, Louise Bross Kelso, Helen Gillette and Minnie Gooch.

Funeral Services will be 10:30 A.M. Monday, March 26, 2007 at the First Christian Church of Crescent with Pastor Dan Curtis and Pastor Keith Gordon officiating, burial will follow in the Crescent Cemetery under the direction of Abernathy - Aaron Funeral Home. Viewing will be Saturday from 8:30 A.M. – 8:00 P.M. and Sunday from 1:00 P.M. – 5:00 P.M. at the funeral home. The family is requesting memorials be made to the Logan Medical Center Foundation, Camp Joy and First Christian Church of Crescent. Condolences may be sent to the family at abernathyaaron.com
