Ruth M. Blevins
(March 9, 1924 - November 12, 2009)

Ruth Marguerite (Ellis) Blevins, 85, passed away November 12, 2009. She was born March 9, 1924 in Seward, Oklahoma to Walter and Sarah (Bussard) Ellis.

She attended the Orchard Center, a 1-room school house located at the intersection of Highways 74 & 33 through 8th grade then attended St. Joseph’s Academy in Guthrie where she graduated in 1942.

She married Roy Blevins, Jr. in August 1942, to this union seven children were born. They later divorced. In June 1980, she married Jacob Blevins, Sr. and they made their home in Cimarron City.

Ruth was active among the community. She was the first manager of the Crescent swimming pool. She also worked many years in Crescent and the surrounding communities painting and hanging wallpaper. She helped raise money for the Crescent Community Center and spend many hours volunteering at the Crescent Care Center.

She enjoyed crafts and quilting. Many of the quilts she made were donated to St. Bonaventure Indian Mission and School in New Mexico. She also enjoyed scouring yard sales and thrift stores purchasing baby clothes. She always washed, ironed and made any needed repairs before donating to the Crossroads: an Open Door for Life Choices, Inc. (Formerly known as Birthchoice).

She is survived by five sons, Lynn & wife Marilyn of Oklahoma City, Phil and wife Arleta of Edmond, Stephen and wife Mikki, David and wife Twana, and Jeffrey and wife Jeanette, all of Crescent. One daughter, Lisa Slattery and husband Daniel of Oklahoma City, one sister, Pauline Graff of Crescent, 18 grandchildren, 31 great grandchildren; and numerous nieces and nephews.

Ruth is preceded in death by her husband Jacob, one son Richard Paul, her parents, two sisters Josephine Ellis and Leola Adams and four brothers Delmar, Loren, Leo and Roy Ellis.

Funeral services were held Monday, November 16th at St Mary’s Catholic Church in Guthrie with Father Denis Hanrahan officiating. She was buried in the Crescent Cemetery. Services are under the direction of Abernathy-Aaron Funeral Home in Crescent. Family and friends may sign the online guestbook at abernathyaaron.com.
