Louise Mae Byrd Estes

Louise Mae (Byrd) Estes was born April 10, 1925 in Hamlin, West Virginia to Bufford and Gypsie Lou (Salmons) Byrd. She passed away Jun 2, 2023 in Chandler at the age of 98.

Louise married James Estes September 13, 1947 and they raised 4 children together. She traveled with her husband as he worked on the pipeline until they settled in Wellston in 1959. She worked as a cook in the Wellston School System for 20 years.

Following retirement from the school, Louise spent her summers in West Virginia caring for her parents. She loved playing Skip Bo with her friends at the Wellston Senior Center. Louise was a long-time member of the Missionary Baptist Church in Wellston where she went twice on Sundays and once on Wednesdays for many years.

Louise was preceded in death by her parents, Bufford and Gypsie Lou Byrd; her husband of 41 years, James Estes; daughter, Sonja Estes; infant sister, Joanna Byrd; brother, Chuck Byrd; sister, Shirley Sowards; and her grandson, Joshua Estes. Survivors include her children, Jay Estes and his wife Shirley of Wellston, Tim Estes and Lisa Isbell both of the home; (2) grandsons, Scott Estes, Brandon Isbell; (2) great-granddaughters, Rylinn and Brooklynn Estes; (2) great-grandsons, Braxton and Boston Estes; siblings, Monty Byrd and Peggy Davis both of West Virginia; along with other family and many friends.

A funeral will be held at 10:00 a.m. Wednesday, June 7, 2023 at the Missionary Baptist Church in Wellston with interment following next to her husband in the Wellston Cemetery. Arrangements are under the direction of Lehman Funeral Home of Wellston.
