GARY MINSHALL

July 23, 1946 - September 11, 2017

Gary Dean Minshall, 71, was born July 23, 1946 to Kenneth and Blenda Minshall of Tryon, Oklahoma and departed this life on September 11, 2017 after a short battle with cancer. Arrangements are under the care of Palmer Marler Funeral Home of Stillwater. Funeral service will be held on Friday, September 15, 2017 at 10:00am at Tryon Christian Union Church. Interment will follow at the Tryon Cemetery. Visitation will be held on Thursday, September 14, 2017 from 9:00am to 8:00pm at Palmer Marler Funeral Home.

Gary worked as a horseshoer for more than 30 years and traveled far and wide to do the work he loved. He was also a gifted photographer, poet and furniture maker. He was a lover of all kinds of horses and they were one of his favorite things to photograph. He loved the Native American community in the Tryon area and acquired many friends there.

Gary graduated from Tryon High School and immediately married his high school sweet heart Sandra (Green) Minshall on June 12, 1964. They lived in the Oklahoma City and Yukon area for 18 years before returning to the Tryon area in 1984 where they have resided for the past 33 years. Gary was an active member of the Tryon community where he was Cemetery sexton, involved in many other town activities and an active member of the Christian Union Church.

Gary was preceded in death by his father, Kenneth; daughter, Jennifer Dyanne; and many other members of his family.

Gary leaves behind his wife of 53 years, Sandra; daughter, Stephanni Taylor and her husband Troy; a son, Austin; and four grandchildren, Brett and his wife, Sara Taylor, Sydney and Connor Taylor, and Markus Minshall. He is also survived by his mother, Blenda; sister, DeAnn Piter; and seven brother’s-in-law; one sister-in-law, Sue Smith and her husband Homer; many nieces and nephews; a dear friend that he thought of as a brother, Kenny Fields and far too many friends to mention.

Gary loved nothing better than having the grandchildren around, showing them the joys of the country and enjoying the cabin that he built by the pond. Memorial donations can be made in his name to Tryon Christian Union Church or to the American Cancer Society in c/o Palmer Marler Funeral Home, 5106 North Washington, Stillwater, OK 74075.
