Albert "Sonny" James Lee Jones, Sr.

Albert “Sonny” James Lee Jones, Sr. was born to Alva Lee Jones and Eva Lee Jones on November 29, 1938 in Woodville, Oklahoma.

He passed away the morning of December 23, 2020 at 82 years old at the home he shared with his wife, Margaret, in Blackwell, Oklahoma.

Sonny spent 21 years in the military as a helicopter mechanic. He did three tours to Vietnam and earned 14 medals, including two bronze stars.

He had two sons, Albert James “Lee” Jones, Jr. and Madison Alva Jones with his first wife, Barbara Gail McGinnis-Jones and another son, Jesse Lee Jones with his second wife, Paulette Jones.

He is preceded in death by his parents, Eva and Alva; his first wife, Barbara; sisters, Penny, Joy and Janey; two sons, Albert “Lee” Jr. and Jesse; step-children, John “Mitchell Boyd, Jr., James “Jimmy” Boyd, and Linda Gilbert.

He is survived by his wife, Margarett June Cross-Jones; a sister, Myrna Butler; a son, Madison Jones; step-daughter, Frankie Boyd; eight grandchildren; nine great-grandchildren; and many nieces and nephews.

He enjoyed spending time with all of his grandkids and great-grandkids, playing with is dog, Sybil, being outside, hauling cotton, driving his semi, and spending his evenings at home, watching westerns with his wife, Margarett.

Sonny was an honest, hard-working man and a very loving and devoted father. At one point he told his wife that he “could die happily now, because he had everything he ever wanted: a big family and some daughters.”

A celebration of Sonny’s life will be held on Tuesday, January 5, 2021 at 10:00 a.m. at the First Assembly of God Church, 4825 White Avenue S in Blackwell, Oklahoma. Burial will follow at 2:00 p.m. at the Osage County Cemetery in Osage, Oklahoma.

A memorial has been established in his honor with the American Cancer Society in c/o Roberts and Son Funeral Home, 120 W. Padon, Blackwell, Oklahoma 74631.
