Rosa Naoma Dollison Longwell

longwell-r-n

April 19, 1929 ~ April 5, 2025

Rosa Naoma Langwell was born April 19, 1929, in to James and Dora (Derringer) Dollison. She passed away peacefully at her home in Chandler on April 5, 2025, at the age of 95.

Naoma was born on a fifty-acre farm northwest of Davenport Oklahoma. She grew up in a log cabin until 1942, and went to Mountain View School, later attending Davenport School. She lived during the depression and the daily chores included drawing water from the well, helping tend the garden, milking, gathering eggs, and hunting rabbits and squirrels for food. She said it was hard to come up with a nickel to buy kerosene for the lantern, so they just went to bed when it got dark.

As a child, she lost her father, and it became difficult for her and her mother to survive. Her older siblings had already left home. Naoma had a short kids .22 rifle that she used to hunt rabbits with. They never owned a car but had a horse and buggy to go into town to buy supplies. If the horse was not available, she walked to Davenport to go to school, and to the store. Her grandparents lived right to the northeast of their property, and she said she thought they had gotten their land in one of the Oklahoma Land Runs.

Naoma adored her Uncle George, who was a movie actor and always brought her treats as a child. She loved hearing about his adventures and all the people he knew. She became saved at an early age and was a member of the Baptist Church. She was close to fourteen years old when Frank Phillips came to their farm and bought their oil royalties, which enabled them to buy a better home and move out of the log cabin.

When Naoma became an adult, she married Oren Austin and had two children, but he passed away at a young age. She met JM "John Marion" Helm at the Chandler Family Theatre and he said he would drive her and Dorita, her niece, back to Davenport. They later married and had ten children together. JM was killed in an automobile wreck in 1981, and she then married AL Langwell.

Naoma was a kind and caring person, and she devoted her life to caring for her children. Throughout her life she always had an open door if you needed a place to stay. Naoma always looked forward to family reunions. She enjoyed traveling to Branson and California. Her famous saying was "What's your hurry?" because she loved being surrounded by her family and friends.

Naoma was preceded in death by her parents, James A Dollison and Dora M Derringer-Dollison; sisters, Violet Lynch and Doris Cline; brothers, James (Jim) Dollison, and William Earl "Buster" Dollison; husbands, Oren Austin, John Marion Helm and Al Langwell; children, Gary Austin and wife Mary, Bill Austin and wife Trudy, Wendel Helm, Jimmy Helm, Ricky Helm and Bob Helm; grandson Jeff Austin.

Survivors include her children, David Helm and wife Kathy of Stroud, Carol Maier and husband Farrell of Edmond, Ben Helm and wife Sharon of Drumright, Brenda Rich of Chandler, Marie Boggs and husband Boyd of Sparks, Pam Pratt and husband Wayne of Chandler; grandchildren, Gary Austin, Paula Austin, Wendy Helm, Kim McGlasson, Lacy Helm, John Helm, Tristan Helm, Nikki Hottle, Deana Hess, Christy Johnson, Emily Fruits, Courtney Helm, Brad Ross, Don Helm, Sean Helm, Brett Helm, Bobby Helm, Phillip Williams, Robert Hanmer, Candy Brewer, Boyd Allen Boggs, Michael Pratt; fifty-nine great-grandchildren; many great-great-grandchildren along with other family and friends.
