The Stroud Messenger carried a brief report of John McMillen's death on 31 July 1914: "Henry McMillen brought his father John McMillen here for burial last Saturday.

His father having died at their home in the Osage country the preceding Thursday.

The remains were laid alongside Clint McMillen, who died in this city several years ago."
