MARY ELIZABETH HENDRICKS BARTON
1916 - 2014


Mary Elizabeth Ross Hendricks Barton died peacefully at home on September 21, 2014.
She was born on March 10, 1916, in Madill, Oklahoma, to Frank and Leota (Null) Ross, who were members of a prominent pioneer Marshall county family and original enrollees of the Choctaw Tribe.
She graduated from high school in Olney, Texas, and attended college in Gainesville, Texas.
She married William Earl “Yiene” Hendricks in 1941, and moved to Prague, Oklahoma in 1945 at the end of World War II, where her husband owned and operated Hendricks Oil Company. He preceded her in death in 1957.
She then married ScVerlin “Si” Barton, also of Prague, in 1966. He preceded her in death in 1996. She was also preceded in death by her parents, two brothers, Marshall Keyes Ross and Brent Houston Ross, two sisters, Lucille Ross and Leone Ross and son-in-law, Mark McElroy.
Mary lived in Prague for nearly 70 years. She had two children, Mary “Dugan” McElroy and William Hendricks, both of Santa Fe, New Mexico.
She was a member of P.E.O. She owned and operated The Blossom Shop in Prague from 1957 to 1967.
In addition to her children, Mary is survived by three grandchildren, David W. McElroy of Santa Fe, Ross McElroy and his wife, Renee, of Keller, Texas and Will Hendricks, also of Santa Fe, and a nephew, John Phillip Ross and his wife, Carolyn, of Kingston, Oklahoma. She is also survived by two great-grandchildren, Reid McElroy and Ryan Kate McElroy of Keller, Texas.
Expressions of sympathy may be made to Prague Hospital.
The family will receive friends on Monday, September 22, 2014, from 6:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m. at Parks Brothers Funeral Home in Prague.
A graveside service will be held on Tuesday, September 23, 2014, at 1:00 p.m. at Woodberry Forest Cemetery in Madill with Rev. Keith Cole officiating.
Services are under the direction of Parks Brothers Funeral Service in Prague.
