Laverne Evans Haskin, longtime Cushing resident, passed away on Tuesday evening, December 27, 2005 in Duncan, Oklahoma at the age of 82 years.
The daughter of the late Earl Evans and Mary Lou Ford Evans, Laverne was born on February 22, 1923, south of Cushing, and was reared and educated in this area.
She was united in marriage to Marlin Haskin on July 26, 1943, two weeks prior to him being shipped to Europe during World War II. To this union three children, Janet, Lois and Mike were born. Marlin preceded her in death on November 12, 1994.
Laverne became a born again Christian as a young child while over hearing the Reverend Harold Haymes explain the plan of salvation to her mother.
She was a strong, private person who loved her family, her extended family, and her church family.
She was a member of the Oak Grove Baptist Church, where she had taught Sunday School and Bible school for years; she had played the piano for the church for over 30 years; sang in church, and at weddings and funerals and had sang in the choir for as long as possible; she enjoyed farming, working with her cattle, vegetable gardening, sewing, reading and praying.
Survivors include her children, Janet Haskin of Tulsa; Lois Dawes and her husband Mike of Duncan, Oklahoma; and Mike Haskin and his wife Fran of Oklahoma City; her grandchildren, Adrian and Lindsey Dawes of St. Louis; and Sarah Haskin of Oklahoma City; other family and a multitude of extended family and close friends.
In addition to her parents and husband, she was preceded in death by a brother Weston Evans and one grandson Aaron Dawes.
Funeral services will be held on Saturday, December 31, 2005 at 2:00 p.m. in the Oak Grove Baptist Church with Reverend Mike Murray, pastor officiating.
Burial will follow in the Avery Cemetery.
