Thurman Franklin Norman, long-time Davenport, Oklahoma, resident was born August 20, 1939, in Wewoka, Oklahoma. He departed this life on July 2, 2021, at his home in Davenport at the age of 81 years.

Thurman was the son of C.T. and Ella (Barkhimer) Norman. He attended school in Davenport, and graduated in 1958. Thurman married Carolyn Sue Shaffner in Davenport, on August 26, 1959. Thurman and Sue ran a dairy farm for 15 years before selling out. He worked as a Gas Plant Supervisor for many years along with running their cattle farm. Thurman served on the Lincoln County Farm Bureau Board for 50 years, Lincoln County Fair Board, Lincoln County Cattlemen’s Association, Davenport School Board, Davenport Fair Board, and he served as a Lincoln County Sheep Superintendent for many years. He was instrumental in organizing the Lincoln County Dairy Club many years ago and devoted countless hours and miles hauling kids to dairy field days and judging contests. He was also an Honorary Lincoln County 4 H Member and Honorary State FFA degree recipient. He has always been a strong supporter of youth organizations.

Thurman was very devoted to his family, and enjoyed spending time with his kids, grandkids, and great-grandkids, and following them in their many adventures, and will be greatly missed.

Thurman was preceded in death by his parents; wife; one son, Jeffrey; one great-grandson, Hunter, and two brothers, Melvin and Jim.

Survivors include two daughters and son-in-law, Cindy and Martin Kirby, and Debbie Terronez; one son Patrick Norman; five grandchildren and spouses, Kristen and Jerred Eversole, Michelle and Adam Lessell, Heather and Clu Harkins, Jennifer Dingman and Jeffrey Terronez; six great-grandchildren, Bryson, Mason, Mattie, Brian, Cade, and Kurt; honorary grandson Jesse Meeks; other relatives and many friends.

In lieu of flowers, expressions of sympathy may be made to Oklahoma Baptist Homes for Children, 3800 N. May Ave., OKC, OK 73112-6506, or to the Lincoln County 4-H, c/o Norman Memorial, 811 Manvel, Suite 2, Chandler, OK 74834 .

Funeral services will be held at 2:00 PM, Thursday, July 8, 2021, at the Davenport First Baptist Church with Rev. Mike Mitchell officiating. Burial will follow at Davenport Cemetery. Arrangements are under the direction of Parks Brothers Funeral Service in Chandler, Oklahoma.
