Grady West Adams

Our hearts are saddened by the passing of Grady West Adams, 92 a resident of the Spiro Nursing Home.

Graveside Service will be at 10:00am on October 2, 2020 at the Garden of Memories Cemetery in Spiro, Oklahoma under the direction of Mallory-Martin Funeral Home of Spiro, Oklahoma.

Grady was the second of nine children, being born on December 23, 1927 in Covington, Oklahoma to Sam and Irene (Winn) Adams. He joined the United States Navy in 1945 and was honorably discharged in 1949. He served on the USS William C. Lawe, where he met his best friend Bill Cox. Together they sailed around the world on a “Good Will Ambassador Tour” after World War II. He and Bill went to California where Grady met and married Marie Young. He and Marie raised two daughters, Nina and Pat. They lived in Arvin, then Bakersfield, and finally Tehachapi, California. After his retirement from truck driving, they relocated back to Spiro, Oklahoma. Marie passed away in 2004 and Grady later married Mary Jo Anderson, who is now deceased. He was a very dedicated care giver to both. Grady was member of the Choctaw Senior Citizens, he loved to tell stories and talk about his Navy “shenanigans” with Bill and liked playing dominoes.

Preceding him in death include his parents, Sam and Irene, both spouses, Marie and Mary Jo, his daughter, Nina Gillespie, three brothers, Wendal, Harold, and John “Bob” Adams, and his best friend, Bill Cox.

Grady is survived by his daughter, Patricia Reed, sister, Phyllis Leach, brothers, JB Adams, Silas Adams, Larry Adams, and Jerry Adams, grandchildren, Lorie Phillips, Danny Reed, and Jason Reed, step son, Rickey White, great grandchildren, Tyler Phillips, Audrianna Nave, Lindsay Nave, and Kaylee Reed,  many nieces, nephews, other family, friends, and loved ones.

Viewing will be 9:00am- 7:00pm Thursday October 1, 2020 at the funeral home.
