Joe David Cook, 88, a life-long resident of Wilburton, Oklahoma passed away on July, 20, 2022 at the Tidwell Living Center.

Viewing will be held from 2:00 p.m. to 7:00 p.m. on Friday, July 22, 2022 at the Jones Harkins Funeral Home Chapel.

A funeral service will be held at 10:00 a.m. on Saturday, July 23, 2022 at the Jones Harkins Funeral Home Chapel.

The burial will follow at Memorial Gardens Cemetery, Wilburton, Oklahoma under the direction of Jones Harkins Funeral Home.

Pallbearers will be the Wilburton Masonic Lodge #141. Honorary pallbearers will be the Wilburton Fire Department.

Joe was born on July 14, 1934 at Patterson, Oklahoma to Jim Cook and Irene (Smith) Cook. He graduated from Wilburton High School in 1953 and attended Eastern Oklahoma State College. He worked as a security guard at the Oklahoma State Capital for 8 years and retired from the Department of Public Safety in 1988, where he worked for 30 years as a Drivers Examiner, with the last 3 years working as an Oklahoma Highway Patrolman. He was also retired from the Wilburton Fire Department with 20 years of service. After retirement in 1988, Joe began volunteering for the Bedouin Shrine Temple in Muskogee, Oklahoma. For 13 years, Joe helped raise money for new vans and also transported many children in need to the Shriners Hospitals in Galveston, Texas and Shreveport, Louisiana. He was a member of the First United Methodist Church of Wilburton, a member of the Wilburton Masonic Lodge #141; a 32nd degree Consistory, McAlester, and a member of the Bedouin Shrine Temple in Muskogee.

Joe is survived by his sons: James Cook of Tulsa, and Geary Cook of McAlester; his daughters: Jana Scott and husband, Curtis of Wilburton, and Julie Chronister of Wilburton; 9 grandchildren; 6 great grand-children; his sister: Peggy Page and husband, Don of Ada; and his nephew: Mark Page of Ada.

Joe is preceded in death by his son: Joe Cook, Jr; and his mother and father: Irene and Jim Cook.
