Shirley Gail Ankney, 52, of Mangum, died suddenly Thursday, Sept. 28, 2006, at Mangum Community Hospital.

She was born Sept. 8, 1954, in Garland, Texas, to Charles and Jettie (Carter) Holt. She married Albert Ankney on Sept. 22, 1996, in Oklahoma City. They lived in Roosevelt for seven years before moving to Benton, La., where they resided for three years. In November 2005 they moved to Mangum. Shirley had just purchased the Onion Grill in Granite and was in the process of remodeling the restaurant before her death. She was a member of the First Baptist Church in Mangum.

She is survived by her loving husband, Albert Ankney, of the home in Mangum; six children, Lynn Henderson of Mangum, Timothy Elliott and wife Amy of Sanleon, Texas, Stephanie Burr and husband Rick of Waco, Texas, Clayton Harrison and wife Tabatha of Watonga, Brittney Hagermann and husband Nate of Enid, and Tiffany Brenton of Garland, Texas; her mother, Jettie Holt of Garland, Texas; one brother, Charles "Chip" Lee Holt of Mangum; one sister, Marsha Gonzales and husband Ernest of Baytown, Texas; 11 grandchildren, David, Brandi, Randy Davenport of Jacksonville, Texas, Levi Daniel Elliott, Bailey, Brandi, and Seth Canaday of Sanleon, Texas, Shay Lynn and Kaycee Dawn Burr of Waco, Jailynn Renee Harrison of Watonga, and Chesney Jenae Ankney of Enid; her grandfather, Ed Holt of Garland, her mother-in-law and father-in-law, Juanita and C.R. Ranjeal of Mountain Park, two bubba's, Mark Nesmith of Mangum and Jerry Wilson of Hobart; by her special friend Karen Newsome of Mangum; numerous nieces, nephews and many other friends.

She was preceded in death by her father, Charles; a brother, Danny Holt; and two sons, Wyatt and Tyson Ankney.

Funeral services will be held at 10 am, Saturday at the First Baptist Church in Mangum with Rusty Rickert officiating. Interment will follow at the Roosevelt Cemetery under the direction of Greer Funeral Home in Mangum.

The family will receive friends at Greer Funeral Home today from 6 to 8 pm.
