Martha Imogene Chapman was born on December 5, 1926 in Hobart, Oklahoma to Jesse E. Chapman and Delia P. (Aday) Chapman, the third of three children. She grew up in Hobart, graduating from Hobart High School in 1945. On July 12, 1950 she married William James Coffia from Lone Wolf and they enjoyed 31-1/2 years together until his untimely death on December 2, 1981. During her career she worked for TG&Y General Office, Furrow & Company (florist wholesaler) and Sears & Roebuck. She enjoyed sewing, bowling, crocheting, needlework and her family, and attending events at Oklahoma City University where her husband was a math professor and Vice President for Academic Affairs. She spent many hours with her sister, nieces and nephews and great-nieces and great-nephews attending their ball games and helping their parents make sure the kids got to practices and other events. Later she was the primary caretaker for her sister until Dorothy’s death on March 30, 2011. She then lost her brother, Clifton, later that year on December 22, 2011.

After three falls and two trips to the ER on July 13, Jean slipped into unconsciousness and passed a week later on July 21, 2020 at Integris Hospice House in Oklahoma City. Welcoming her to Heaven are those who have gone before her – husband, William James Coffia, parents, Jesse E. and Delia P. Chapman, sister and best friend, Dorothy Wilma Chapman Davis, and brother, Clifton D. Lee, brothers-in-law, sisters-in-law and many cousins.

Jean is survived by a host of nieces including Dianna Collins, Sharon Burton, Pam Young, Linda Christiansen, Margaret Agy, Gail Crosson, Ruth Alvarez, Chris Sanders, and Loretta Maher; nephews including Danny Davis, Cary Bryant, Mike Coffia, Scott Coffia, and Corky Coffia, many great nieces, great nephews and cousins.

Viewing will be at Mercer Adams Funeral Service, 3925 N. Asbury, Bethany from 5:30 to 8:00 pm on Friday, July 24 (masks are mandatory!), with graveside service and burial in Rose Cemetery at Hobart, Oklahoma at 11:00 a.m. on Saturday, July 25.

The family suggests the William James Coffia Scholarship Fund at Oklahoma City University.
