Hennessey – The funeral for Charley O. Berkenbile, 100, who died Wednesday, March 18, 1992, at his home in Hennessey, will be at 2 PM Saturday at Union Chapel Church east of Hennessey. The Revs. Bill Kious and Clarence Herrin will officiate.

Burial will be in Lyon Valley Cemetery under the direction of Cordry and Son Funeral Home.

He was born August 20, 1891, in Morgan County Missouri, to John Henry and Katherine Elizabeth Berkenbile. He moved with the family to Oklahoma in 1905 to a farm west of Union Chapel Church, later moving 3 miles east where a grandson now lives.

On March 8, 1914, he married Alma Elizabeth Curry of Marshall. She preceded him in death in April 1976. He lived on various farms until settling on the farm, where he was raised. He first work on a threshing crew and later owned his own machine.

Surviving are three daughters, Irene States of Hennessey, Juanita Rogers of Longview, Texas, and Aleene Self of Bethany; four sons, Delmar of Hunter, Hollis and Leland, both of Hennessey, and Charles Vernon of Dallas, Texas; 23 grandchildren; 41 great – grandchildren; and 12 great – great – grandchildren.

Besides his wife, he was preceded in death by seven brothers, five sisters, one grandson and one great – granddaughter.

Memorials may be made through the funeral home to Lyon Valley Cemetery.
