KINGFISHER — Vivian Brown Wood, 89, of Kingfisher, Okla., died Saturday, Aug.
31, 2013. She was born in Kingfisher on Aug. 9, 1924, to Harvey and Anna Ives
Brown and is survived by one son, Steve Wood and wife Patricia of Tulsa; three
daughters Gloria Shadid and husband Tom of Edmond, Sharlene Tipken of El Reno,
Jane LaFalier and husband Tim of Broken Arrow; seven grandchildren, Kerri Shadid,
Katie Wood, Shawn Tipken, Janet Heckert, Justin Triplett, Becky McCune, Ryon
LaFalier; 11 great-grandchildren; and one brother, Dorsey Brown and wife Joyce
of Kingfisher.
She was preceded in death by her parents, Harvey and Anna Brown and her husband
Truman, her sisters, Dona Jean Schoelen, Etrulia Brown, and a brother, Harvey
Leon. Also preceding her in death were two grandchildren, Lance Tipken and Tonya
Miles.
Vivian married Truman Wood in Kingfisher on April 22, 1945, in the presence of
over 300 friends and family.
After completing graduation from Kingfisher High School, Vivian attended Hills
Business University at Oklahoma City and then employed by Burris Mill and
Elevator Co.
Vivian was class queen in her freshman, sophomore and junior years and high
school football queen her senior year. She was a past worthy advisor of the
local Rainbow Girls Assembly and held two grand offices in the state assembly.
Truman and Vivian lived in Kansas City and Belton, Mo., and Hennessey, Okla.,
but spent the majority of their years in Kingfisher. Vivian and Truman enjoyed
many years of travel with family and friends, which included summers in South
Texas and winters in Colorado. They also enjoyed participating in a local dance
club and bridge clubs. She will be greatly missed by her loving family and many
friends.
Vivian has had many caregivers who have contributed to her quality of life and
the family wishes to express our appreciation to each of them, but especially to
Crystal Montes who has been with Truman and Vivian during several of their last
years.
The funeral service will be at 1:30 p.m. Saturday, Sept. 7, 2013, at First
Christian Church, Kingfisher, officiated by the Rev. Marilyn Merle. Burial will
follow in Kingfisher Cemetery under the direction of Cordry-Gritz Funeral Home,
Hennessey.
Memorial donations may be made in her name to First Christian Church or the
charity of your choice with the funeral home serving as custodian of the funds.
