Ruth Virginia (Streit) Porter

The funeral for Ruth V. Porter, 90, of Kingfisher will be 2 p.m. today at Sanders Funeral Chapel, Kingfisher, with Rebekah funeral rites. Burial will be in Kingfisher Cemetery.

She was born Aug. 7, 1917, in Edmond to Samuel Adamson Streit and Cora Francis Hamlin Streit and died Jan. 2, 2008, in Oklahoma City.

She attended Crescent public schools and finished Lanes Beauty College at Oklahoma City in May 1935. She was a registered beauty operator since July 1935, operating her own shop since April 3, 1946, closing it in August 2003.

She married Harvey Porter June 9, 1947, at Port Lavaca, Texas. They made their home in Kingfisher. She was a member of Methodist Church, Kingfisher and American Legion Auxiliary since 1948.

She was a past officer for all units of Kingfisher Rebekah Lodge No. 3 and Enid L.A.P.M. No. 12.

She served as past district deputy president of Rebekah Assembly in 1959-1960. In 1964, she received Decoration of Chivalry for service in the lodge and community. She also served as grand matriarch of the Grand L.E.A. of Oklahoma, 1966-1967, and was a member more than 60 years.

Surviving are one daughter, Shirley Porter Meyer, of Grapevine, Texas; six grandchildren; 17 great-grandchildren; and three great-great-grandchildren.

She was preceded in death by her husband, Harvey, three sons, two sisters, one brother and two grandchildren.
