Graveside services for Olan Raymond Kale, 95, Dover, will be at 2 p.m. Sat., Jan. 23, 2016 at Kingfisher Cemetery officiated by Rev. Fred Jones. Arrangements are by Cordry-Gritz Funeral Home, Hennessey.

Raymond was born May 5, 1920 near Kingfisher to Frank and Lela Kale. He died Sun., Jan. 17, 2016 at Countrywood Assisted Living Center in Kingfisher.

He became interested in working on mechanical equipment very early in his life on the farm. He was drafted into the US Army during World War II, where he was trained as a mechanic. Except for a few months in 1944 and 1945, he never lived more than 10 miles from where he was born. His formal education stopped short of high school graduation at a local country school just down the road from his home near Kingfisher.

Before and after the war he was locally employed as an automotive mechanic at a Kingfisher car dealership. In 1966 he went to work at a Kingfisher machine shop. He pursued that career until he retired in the 1980’s. During his working years he often repaired vehicles and equipment for friends and local residents at his home shop in Dover.
Following his service in World War II, he used the G.I. Bill to learn to fly at the Kingfisher airport. Raymond served on the Dover City Council in the 1980’s.

He married Hazel Marie Schmidt and following her death, he married Helen Humphries.

Raymond was preceded in death by both wives, one son, Richard Kale and one granddaughter, Shelley Kale.

Surviving are two sons, James Kale and wife Georgia and Tom Kale of Kingfisher; two granddaughters, and seven great-grandchildren.

Memorials may be made in his name to the American Heart Association with the funeral home serving as custodian of the fund.
