Funeral services for Darrel Gene Humphries, 60, Duke, Okla. will be
at 10 a.m., Wed., Dec. 23, 2015, at Lowell-Tims Funeral Home Chapel.
Pastor Rick Crouch officiating. Interment will be at 3 p.m., Wed., at
Kingfisher City Cemetery under the direction of Lowell-Tims Funeral Home
of Altus.
Humphries died at his home Mon., Dec. 21, 2015, surrounded by family.
He was born Sept. 23, 1955, to Carol Woodrow and Helen Juanita (Homier)
Humphries in Kingfisher while the family lived in Dover. A 1973 Dover
High School graduate Darrel attended El Reno Junior College and later
received his bachelor’s degree at Oklahoma State University.
Darrel married the love of his life, Sherrie Lynn Pratt, June 6, 1975,
and they spent the next 40 wonderful years together. While teaching and
coaching, Darrel received his master’s degree from Southwestern Oklahoma
State University. His first teaching and coaching position was at
Greenfield and he continued teaching and coaching at Pond Creek, Hunter,
Yarbrough, Lone Wolf and Hennessey.
In 1993 the family moved to Duke where he served as the principal and
athletic director until 1998, then later as principal and athletic
director at Burlington and Erick. In 2007, he returned to Duke as the
principal and athletic director until his health began to fail in 2014.
In his spare time he enjoyed working with his cattle and watching
sports, but most of all he loved being with his grandchildren and
participating and watching them in their activities.
He was preceded in death by his parents; an infant daughter, Christy
Lynn Humphries; his father-in-law, Delbert Pratt, his brother-in-law,
Ronnie Pratt.
Surviving are his loving wife, Sherrie Humphries, of the home; two
children, Michelle Milner and husband Jason of Duke and Brian Humphries
and wife Alexa of Woodward; four grandchildren, Gage Milner, Grant
Milner, Vivienne Humphries and Violet Humphries; one brother, Jerry
Humphries and wife Carolyn of Dover; his mother-in-law, Carol Pratt of
Kingfisher along with many nieces, nephews, cousins, a host of friends
and former students whom he dearly loved.
