Helen Bloss passed away peacefully at home Friday, January 19, 2018. She
was preceded in death by her husband of 72 years, Rev. John Bloss, who
died on November 23, 2017. Helen was born on July 27, 1923 on a farm
Northwest of Kingfisher, Oklahoma, to Albert and Anna Storm Wendt.
Helen graduated as Valedictorian from Dover High School in 1940, and
attended Enid Business College and Phillips University. While in
college, Helen and John met at an ice cream social, and were married on
October 25, 1945 in the Evangelical and Reformed Church, Kingfisher (now
the Federated Church).
Helen served with John as he served in ministry in Christian Churches
(Disciples of Christ) in: Lindsay, Oklahoma City (Northeast Christian),
Yukon, Tonkawa, Del City, and Elk City, retiring to Kingfisher in 1988.
Helen was a volunteer leader in numerous organizations, dedicating her
life to others. She served as a volunteer to: Ministers Spouses in
Oklahoma, Regional Childrens Committee, Christian Womens Fellowship,
Sunday School teacher, Counselor and Director of Church Youth Camps,
Hospital Service, Neighbor for Neighbor, Help, Inc., Elementary School
reading mentor, Museum Volunteer, Bible Study leader, and Meals on
Wheels.
She was a member of the First Christian Church, Kingfisher, Oklahoma,
where she served as Elder Emeritus, and a member of the Christian Womens
Fellowship.
Helen is survived by one son: David Bloss and wife Carolyn; two
daughters Sue McConaghy and husband Neal; and Ruth Knous and husband
Tom; one son-in-law Bruce Burkhalter and wife Rita, 10 grandchildren:
Natalie Carroll and husband Scott; John Bloss and wife Erin; Erin
McConaghy; Kevin McConaghy and wife Juliana; Justin McConaghy and wife
Winnie; Megan Collom and husband Cody; Cherrell Schat; Glenn Burkhalter
and wife Stephanie; Tom Knous; Tyson Knous; 16 great-grandchildren:
Lauren, Logan, and Hope Carroll; Tyler, Hailey and John (Jack) Bloss;
Donavan and Noah Corn, Kaleb McVay; Clara McConaghy; Levi and Grant
Collom; Zachary and Wyatt Schat; Devon and Valerie Burkhalter, and
sister and brother-in-law Marvin and Irene Reames.
Helen was preceded in death by her husband, John; daughter Kay
Burkhalter, grandson-in-law Jimmy Schat; and great granddaughter Tori
Schat; brother Emil Wendt and sister Pauline Collins.
Memorial donations may be made in her name to the First Christian Church
of Kingfisher.
Visitation will be Tuesday, January 23 from 3-7 pm at First Christian
Church, Kingfisher. Interment will be Wednesday, January 24 at the
Kingfisher Cemetery at 10:30 am, and memorial service at 11:00 am at the
church.
