James M. "Pop" Tyree

The funeral for Jim “Pop” Tyree, 72, of Hennessey, will be 2 p.m. Monday at First Christian Church. The Rev. Randy Burke will officiate. Burial will be in Hennessey Cemetery. Arrangements are by Cordry-Gritz Funeral Home.

He was born Jan. 23, 1934, in Hoxic, Ark., to Ray and Beulah Leaf Tyree and died Wednesday, April 19, 2006, at his home.

He married Betty Conley Sept. 17, 1981, in Andover, Kan. They made their home in South Haven, Kan., and lived in Flint, Mich., before moving to Hennessey in July 2003.
He was a drywall contractor, professional musician, truck driver and mechanic. He worked for Western Tank, Longhorn and OK Swabbing.

Surviving are his wife, Betty of the home; seven daughters, Amy Daniel, Theresa Collins, Leisa Lott and Rachel Tyree, all of Hennessey, Amanda Tyree of Kingfisher, Tonya Tyree of Burton, Mich., and Lisa Tyree of Flint; seven sons, James M. Tyree Jr., and Joey Tyree, both of Hennessey, and Gary Tyree, Jerry Johnson, Jim Johnson, Marty Tyree and Floyd Tyree, all of Flint; three brothers, Vernon Tyree of Fleshing, Mich., and Herman Tyree and Ray Tyree, both of Flint; three sisters, Wanda Collingsworth of Mississippi and Bonnie Leingburger and Louise Smith, both of Flint; 24 grandchildren; and one great-grandson.

He was preceded in death by one sister and one brother.

Memorials may be made to the funeral home.
