Orlan I "Bud" States

HENNESSEY — Funeral for Orlan I. “Bud” States, 83, will be 10 a.m. Wednesday, July 16, 2014, at First United Methodist Church, officiated by the Rev. Dr. Jim Hill.

Burial will follow at Hennessey Cemetery under the direction of Cordry-Gritz Funeral Home.

Visitation with the family is 7-8 p.m. today, July 15, at the funeral home.

Orlan was born east of Dover on May 18, 1931, to John and Vera Gorton States and died Saturday, July 12, 2014, at Integris Bass Baptist Health Center in Enid.

Orlan graduated from Dover High School. Orlan graduated from Dover High School. He married Norma Vincent in Oklahoma City on June 2, 1951. He was a member of Dover Christian Church and later Hennessey First Christian Church. He served on the Farmers Cooperative Board in Hennessey for a number of years. Orlan was a lifelong farmer and at the age of 12 went with the family custom harvest crew, working their way to the Canadian border. He made this trip each year until he was in his twenties. Some of his greatest pleasures were attending farm machinery auctions and spending time with his grandchildren.

He is survived by his wife, Norma of the home, son, Gary States and wife Dee Dee, and daughter, Kathie Matousek and husband James, all of Hennessey; seven grandchildren, Shayne States and wife Lindsey, Jacob Matousek, Nicholas States and Chanelle, Michael Matousek, Brandi Nault and husband Taylor, Renee Matousek, Marie Hladik and husband Phillip; three great-grandchildren, Mason and Owen Hladik, Lauryn States, and one great-grandchild scheduled to arrive in eight weeks; one stepgreat-grandchild, Seth Higginbotham; three brothers, Joe States and wife Madonna and Leo States and wife Anna Faye, all of Dover, and Dene States and wife Wanda of Hennessey; three sisters, Wanda Cain and husband Gail of California, Linda Olmstead and husband Gene of Littleton, Colo., and Melva Drury and husband Bill of Moore; and numerous nieces and nephews.

Orlan was preceded in death by his parents; one son, Dale States; daughter-in-law, Brenda; and one grandson, William.

Memorial donations may be made in his name to American Diabetes Foundation, with the funeral home serving as custodian of the funds. (Submitted by family)
