The Philip Millis Family December 1927 Hennessey Book
Man Kills Family and Himself
Philip Brubeck MILLIS killed his entire family, his wife and 5 children and then himself December 13, 1927.
The funeral services were held at 2:00 p.m. on December 16, at the Hennessey Methodist Church. Rev. Linden and Rev. Sprague, of Tryon, Oklahoma led the sevices assisted by Rev H.M. James, pastor of the Methodist Church. Over 1500 people attended, and the small church had standing room only, and hundreds more stood in the church yard. Only a portion of the people filed past the five open caskets, but it took one hour and fifteen minutes for those who did. There were five caskets, Mrs. Millis and her five month old son occupied the same casket, as did the two younger children, Wayne and Marie. Five hearses were used and the funeral cortege was miles long. The five graves had been dug on the north side of the Hennessey Cemetery by friends and neighbors from the Union Chapel neighborhood. After a brief message and a song, the Millis family was laid to rest.
