Dorothy Louvina (Vest) McMeekan

Dorothy Louvina (Vest) McMeekan was born Friday, October 15, 1915, in Flora, Arkansas, to Melvin and Cora Vest. She passed away Saturday, September 13, 2008, in Denton, Texas, at the age of 92 years 10 months and 29 days.

In early years Dorothy was a resident of Hennessey, Oklahoma, moving to Durant, Oklahoma where she lived until 2006 when she moved to Denton, Texas, to be close to her family. Dorothy attended school at Pleasant Hill where she played basketball. Dorothy worked as a nurse for Dr. J. T.  Caldwell. She was a member of the First Baptist Church in Hennessey and was a member at Calvary Baptist Church in Durant. Dorothy was involved in a quartet over the years. She also farmed with her husband.    
 
Dorothy was preceded in death by her parents, Melvin Arthur and Cora (Bowran) Vest; her first husband, L. V. Snider; second husband, Henry Wray McMeekan; sisters, Eathel Speers, Olan Vest, Gladys Furtick, Odessa Haggerty and Myrtle Walters; brothers, Leroy "Bud" Vest, Shelby Vest, Troy Vest, Delbert Vest and Eugene Vest.       
           
She is survived by her son, Gary Wray McMeekan and daughter-in-law Judy of Celina, Texas; grandsons, Robert Stephen McMeekan and Bryan Wray McMeekan of Celina, Texas; special nephew, Pat Vest and Gayle of Rose Hill, Kansas; sisters, Stella Langham and Ollie Dameron of Durant, Oklahoma; sister-in-law, LaVera Vest of Celina, Texas; numerous nieces, nephews and other family.        

Services will be Wednesday at 9:30 a.m. at the Rhea Mills Baptist Church in Celina, Texas, with Rev. Benny Leonard and Rev. Mac Perigo officiating. Interment will be at the Hennessey Cemetery at 5 p.m. in Hennessey, Oklahoma.

Family visitation will be Tuesday at 7 p.m. at the Rhea Mills Baptist Church in Celina, Texas. Serving as pallbearers will be Bob Jantz, Harold Ray Langham, Leon Walters, Travis Furtick, Chris McEvoy and David McEvoy.

com. Dalton-Holmes Funeral Home is handling the arrangements.
