The last sad rites of our esteemed friend, G.K. Wheat, was very largely attended in the afternoon of Saturday, September 7, 1895 at his late residence at Downs. The religious services were ably conducted by Reverend Chitwood whose remarks were very sympathetic and impressive. It is one of the saddest announcements that had been made the lot of this communication to make since the settlement of this territory. His life has gone out just at the time when he will be most missed in his family and by the community. He was a fond parent and devoted husband. It is a peculiarly sad case in every way.
