George Hammond, son of Greenberry and Rebecca Hammond, was born at Parkersburg, West Virginia December 12, 1865. Departed this life at 224 North 1st Street, Guthrie, Oklahoma, at the age of 84 years.
George Hammond was made an orphan at the age of 8. Traveled west in young manhood and came to Oklahoma in the run of 1889 and settled on a homestead near Cashion where he remained until moving to Guthrie in 1940.
On January 12, 1893, he was united in marriage to Sarah A. Hatfield. To this union was born 3 sons and 3 daughters. He joined the Christian Church in 1924.
Mr. Hammond leaves his wife, of the home address, a son, Robert, and daughters, Mrs. Jessie Sowards and Mrs. Mary Montgomery of Cashion; sons, Frank and Bill and daughter Mrs. Bessie Cornwell of Guthrie; also 13 grandchildren, one of whom he and Mrs. Hammond raised from infancy, First Lieutenant George R. Hammond of Tacoma, Washington and 15 great grandchildren.
