A celebration of Stella Fern (Collett) Brouchoud will be held at 1 p.m., Friday, March 6, 2015 at Smith Memorial Chapel with Gene Owen officiating. Interment services will follow at Cashion Cemetery. Services are under the direction of Smith-Gallo Funeral Home, Guthrie.

Fern was born to Walter L. and Oma Etta (McMahan) Collett on October 16, 1921. She went to be with the Lord on March 3, 2015. She graduated from Cashion High School in 1939 and married her high school sweetheart, Ralph G. Brouchoud on July 27, 1940. In 1942, she gave birth to her first child, Kenneth, followed by Elfreda in 1945 and Helen in 1950. Her and Ralph enjoyed farming and raising a family in Cashion, OK before moving to Guthrie, OK in 1955. They also owned the Cashion Oil Company and continued to manage the Oil Company for several years. Ralph was an avid sportsman, mainly hunting, and Fern enjoyed helping in collecting, cleaning and cooking the wild game. She was a member of the First Christian Church and the Poplar and Warner Church of Christ in Guthrie. Fern also enjoyed watching babies in her home. Many children, now adults, in Guthrie know Fern as Grandma B. She was very instrumental in the establishment of Miss B’s Daycare in Guthrie in 1973, where she continued to work and take care of children. In her free time, Fern enjoyed bowling in a bowling league, planting flowers in her garden, cooking (especially her famous fried chicken, homemade noodles, date loaf and boston cream), attending grandkids’ and great-grandkids’ sporting events, as well as sewing. Fern was also a member of the quilting club and a member of the Eastern Star along with several card clubs. Fern enjoyed reading and could be easily characterized as an amazing seamstress and custom embroider. It is worth noting that Fern demonstrated a strong independence by driving herself to weekly card club game nights and beauty shop appointments just to name a few. She leaves behind a strong and amazing legacy.

She was preceded in death by her husband, Ralph G. Brouchoud, sister and best friend, Juanita Fitzpatrick, son, Kenneth W. Brouchoud and daughter, Helen J. Machtolff.

Fern is survived by her daughter, Elfreda Johnson of Guthrie, son-in-law, George Machtolff of Guthrie, daughter-in-law, Barbara Brouchoud, grandchildren, Paul Brouchoud and wife Liz of Oklahoma City, Greg Machtolff of Guthrie, Wayne Machtolff of Guthrie, Amanda Lumbert and husband Randell of Marlow, Shawn Machtolff and wife Kristin of Guthrie, Mark Nottingham of Guthrie, Zan Johnson-Hayes and husband Pat of Oklahoma City and Erin Clark and husband Jared of Edmond, many great-grandchildren, Jordan, Cooper, Taylor, Tanner, Court, Brant, Jacob, Cody, Abbie, Randi, Kallie, Kelton, Emmy Kate, Annyssa, Javan, Danielle, Isabella, Jynnae, Josh, Gilson, and Greylyn along with many nieces and nephews.

Visitation will be held Thursday, March 5, 2015, 11 a.m. – 8 p.m. at the Smith-Gallo Funeral Home in Guthrie.
