July 31, 1912 - December 11, 1985

Tonkawa – Bird M. Gaston, 73, died Wednesday, December 11, 1985 at his home in Tonkawa after a lengthy illness. The funeral will be 2 PM Saturday at the First Christian Church in Lamont with the Rev. Daniel A. Sanford officiating. Burial will follow at the I00F Cemetery in Tonkawa under direction of McCafferty – Bolick Funeral Home.

Gaston was born July 31, 1912, in Kaw City and later moved with his parents to Newkirk where he graduated from high school. He then attended Oklahoma Military Academy and Oklahoma University. He belonged to Lambda Chi fraternity at OU and was a charter member of the Ruff Necks Association there. He also was a member of the Methodist Church in Newkirk. In 1934, he married Marie Muegge. They began farming in 1936 near Lamont, moving to Tonkawa in 1982.

Survivors include his wife, Marie; a son, Robin, Oklahoma City; a grandson; and two sisters, Lucille Pierce, Oklahoma City, and Goldie Gaston, Salinas, California.

He was preceded in death by his parents, three brothers and a sister.

Memorials in his name may be made to Oklahoma Medical Research Foundation, Cancer Division, with the First National Bank of Tonkawa or the State Exchange Bank of Lamont serving as custodians of the funds.
