William (Bill) Joseph Moler, 86, beloved husband, father, grand-father, great-grandfather and servant of God, passed from this life on July 18, 2018 at Autumn Leaves of Edmond, Oklahoma. His life and faith will be celebrated at St. Francis Xavier Catholic Church, Stillwater, Oklahoma, with Rosary on Sunday, July 22, 2018 at 7pm, and funeral Mass on Monday, July 23, 2018 at 10am, followed by interment at St. Mary’s Cemetery in Ponca City, Oklahoma. Strode Funeral Home is in charge of the arrangements.

‘Deacon Bill’ was born in Ponca City, Oklahoma in 1932 and lived there until 1950 when he joined the US Navy serving in the Korean conflict; based in California. He married Oleta Fern Moler (Babcock) in 1954 and began his career with OG&E in 1955 in Oklahoma City, with his last assignment as a plant manager at Sooner Station, relocating his family to Stillwater, Oklahoma in 1978. During his early years at OG&E, he also attended OCU and OU, studying mathematics.

In addition to his career at OG&E, Bill and Oleta were active in their Catholic Church parishes in Oklahoma City, where he was chosen to be in the first class of men in Oklahoma to study for and become a Catholic deacon, being ordained in St Francis Xavier parish in Stillwater in 1978. Bill served assignments at both St. Francis and St. John University parishes in Stillwater, was active in the Stephen Ministry program, the Stillwater Ecumenical Ministry, and RCIA.

He retired from OG&E in 1987, but continued his service to the church, retiring from active ministry in 2007. He was a member of Golden K Kiwanis, volunteered for Meals on Wheels, and served for 20 years as an on-call Police Chaplain for the Stillwater Police Department.

Bill was preceded in death by his father, Wayne Isaac Moler; mother, Viola Catherine Moler; one sister, Dorthy Lehman and infant brother, Robert.

He is survived by his loving wife of 64 yrs, Oleta; five children, Catherine Asmussen (Mark) of West Monroe, LA, Theresa Abernathy (David) of St. Louis, Roberta Moler-Mitchell of Stillwater, Robert Moler (Nicole) of Dallas, and William R. Moler (Amy) of Kansas City, 18 grandchildren and 14 great-grandchildren.

Memorials in lieu of flowers may be made to the Mother Teresa Ministry at St. Francis Xavier church in Stillwater, Oklahoma.
