Roy W. Self, resident of Ponca City, Oklahoma, passed away peacefully Sunday, October 2, 2016 in Ponca City, Oklahoma at the age of 86 with his family by his side while listening to Willie Nelson.

Born to Elsie and Joe Self in Konawa, Oklahoma November 22, 1929. Roy W. Self was raised by his Aunt Jewel and Uncle Shorty Allstatt in Marland, Oklahoma where he attended school and graduated from Marland High School in 1948. Shortly after graduation he joined the Army, serving four years in Germany as artillery support. Returning to the US in 1952 he married his high school sweetheart Faye Susanna Miller. Roy was a business man and entrepreneur going to barber school on the GI Bill and opening his own barbershop in 1955. Roy’s Barber Shop located on 4th and South Avenue was open for 17 years. After closing the barber shop Roy started painting houses and working construction in the local area. Later he retired with West Jr. High School. Roy was very passionate about working in the garden with Faye. He especially enjoyed growing tomatoes, garlic, grapes and other herbs. He enjoyed having his grandchildren at his dock on Ponca Lake. He loved camping, fishing on Kaw Lake, playing Golf and being with family. He loved to walk his neighborhood and talk with his neighbors.

He is preceded in death by his wife Faye Self, Elsie & Russell Jackson, Jewel & Shorty Alstatt.

He is survived by his daughter Marvin & Michelle McCune, Teresa & Wes Mason, Tamara Wolff and two sons Steve Self, Greg & Crystal Self. Grandchildren, Eric & Wes McCune, of Edmond, Oklahoma, Ryan and Amy McCune of Ponca City, Blake Self of Norman, Oklahoma, Jacob Self of Anchorage, Alaska. Jared Mason of Tulsa, Derek Mason of Tulsa, Christopher & Fallon Wolff of Edmond, Oklahoma, Bradley Wolff of Edmond, Collin Self of Tulsa, Oklahoma, Jamie Self of Oklahoma City & Grace Self of Oklahoma City. Great Grandchildren, Morgan McCune of Ponca City and Isaac Self of Oklahoma City.

A memorial service will be held on Friday October 7, 2016 at 11 a.m. at Trout Funeral Home Chapel. Burial will follow at Resthaven Cemetery. Funeral arrangements are under the direction of Trout Funeral Home & Crematory.

Honorary Pallbearers will be: Eric McCune, Ryan McCune, Jared Mason, Derek Mason, Blake Self, Christopher Wolff, Jacob Self, and Collin Self.
