Dorothy Christine Rains, 91, of Ponca City, left this earth on December 7, 2020, in Stillwater, OK. A private funeral ceremony will take place at 10:30 AM, Friday, December 11, 2020, with Josh Reese officiating. At Dorothy’s request, there will be no viewing, but friends may sign the guest book from 9:00 AM to 5:00 PM, Thursday, December 10, 2020, at Trout Funeral Home in Tonkawa. Face masks are required. For those who would like to attend, the ceremony will be live-streamed. The broadcast can be accessed by visiting www.trouttonkawa.com, starting at 10:15 AM, and selecting the live stream link in the upper right hand of the homepage.

Dorothy was born on December 25, 1928, in Oklahoma City, to John Farland and Ruby Hazel (Hicks) Buck. On July 23, 1948, she married Royal Rains in Muskogee, OK. She enjoyed ceramics, sewing, crocheting and needlepoint. Dorothy also loved to shop for all kinds and colors of yarn. She was an avid bowler, who won many awards and trophies. All of her trophies are on display at Ponca Bowl. She also loved OU Football.

Dorothy never turned down a cup of coffee, but it had to be hot. She loved Nelly’s coffee most, and would often enjoy a cup with her. She loved her parakeets, Skipper Wayne and Skyler, she kept the TV and lights on for them while she was away so they would be entertained. She was very proud of her yard and loved spending time working in the garden and tending to her flowers. She loved to talk on the phone and would talk to her daughter and her sister, Betty, 2 or 3 times a day. Dorothy was known for her stories and loved to tell them to anyone.

She is survived by her daughters, Royaline “Ronni” Robinson and her husband, Jerry of Tonkawa, Gail Rains of Ponca City; grandchildren, Kelly Rains, of Oklahoma City, Rod Marler and his wife, Nelly, of Tonkawa, Tiara Sweeney and her husband, David, of Ponca City; great-grandchildren, Bailee and her husband, Dustin Hill, of Newkirk, Casey, Brannon and Carli Marler, of Tonkawa, Riley Sweeney, of Ponca City; great-great-granddaughter, Marigold Hill, of Newkirk; sisters, Betty Cottrell, of Oklahoma City, Ruth Neal, of Wagoner, OK, and brother, Wayne Buck and his wife, Suzie, of Muskogee, OK; special friend, Neely Turner, several nieces, nephews, family members and friends.

Dorothy was preceded in death by her husband, Royal; son, James Rains; an infant sister; her parents; brothers, Joyce and Sonny Buck; sister, Joy Archer and special friend, Irene Sullivan.

Pallbearers will be Cory Snapp, Rod Marler, Brannon Marler, Jerry Robinson, Dennis Lincoln, Abel Ochoa and Dany Ochoa. Honorary pallbearers will be Nelly, Casey and Carli Marler.

In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions can be made to: Opportunity Center Inc, 2225 N Union St, Ponca City, OK 74601; Oklahoma School For the Blind, 3300 Gibson St, Muskogee, OK 74403 or Ok Library For the Blind, 300 NE 18th St, Oklahoma City, OK 73105. Arrangements are under the direction of Trout Funeral Home, Tonkawa, OK.

The family would like to thank the staff of The Renaissance of Ponca City and Stillwater and Physicians Choice Hospice for the loving, compassionate care they gave to Dorothy during her time there.
