Mary A. Morrow, former resident of Ponca City, passed Monday, August 29, 2011 in Clearwater, Kansas. She was 86 years of age.

Mary was born April 22, 1925 in Oakwood, Texas, the daughter of William DeWitt Smith and Lela Bell Patrick Smith. Her early schooling was in the Kanard, Texas area where she excelled in basketball and also participated in volleyball.

She moved to Ponca City in 1950 where she helped cook in various restaurants. She moved to Wichita, Kansas where she was employed as a bus driver for the MTA of Wichita. She retired in June of 1987 after 20 years of employment.

She was a member of the Assemblies of God Church and was faithful in serving on various evangelical trips around the country. She was also a member of the Eastern Star. Her enjoyments included fishing, and in earlier years, dancing. She also coached coed softball and loved baseball. She was multitalented and could do carpentry work and other skilled labor. She loved children and the children loved her. Mary was always at the ready to help family and friends. She was known for her good sense of humor.

She is survived by one brother, James Smith two sisters, Maudie Jones and Vera Reeves her two close friends Lynn Wood and Mary Dominick, both of Wichita. She was preceded in death by her parents 3 sisters, Kathleen Page, Willa May Atkinson and Inez Burton 3 brothers, Junior Smith, Chesley Smith and Robert Smith.

Graveside services will be held at 12:30 on Friday, September 2, 2011 at Resthaven Memorial Park with Rev. Casey Johnson presiding. Arrangements are under the direction of Grace Memorial Chapel.
