Corrine Mackey, longtime resident of Ponca City, died peacefully in the residence of her daughter on November 30, 2008. She was 78 years of age. The funeral service will be held at 2 p.m. on Wednesday December 3, 2008 at the Trout Funeral Home Chapel with Chaplain Mike Sweetman, Hospice of North Central Oklahoma officiating. Burial will follow at Resthaven Memorial Park under the direction of Trout Funeral Home.

Corrine Cook was born on January 18, 1930 in Arnett, Oklahoma to Lloyd E. and Nellie Mae (Kelly) Cook. The family moved to Foraker, Oklahoma and then Grainola before settling at 15901 South U Street, rural Kay County in 1939. Corrine graduated from Marland Public Schools where she was a star basketball player. Of note, her value to the team was such that she was asked to and continued to play for the school several years after graduation.

Corrine married Robert F. Mackey on October 12, 1952 at the residence of Lloyd E. and Nellie Cook. A true cowgirl, she was known for hard work and her free spirit. She loved the farm she grew up on and worked it tirelessly late into her sixties. Selfless in every way, she was quick to give and slow to take. Her beauty and grace touched every heart that knew her. She left behind a legacy of love and footsteps that will be hard to follow.

Corrine is survived by: her husband of 56 years, Robert (Bob) Franklin Mackey; two daughters, Karen Sue Whiles and Judy Ann Smith; two sisters, Vinita Jacks and Jeanie Sanders; seven grandchildren, Jeremiah Smith, Jason Smith, Stefanie (Smith) Lowe, Brianne Smith, Tina Chase, Jeremy Whiles, Renee Turner; and twenty great grandchildren.

Corrine was preceded in death by her parents, one brother, Orvan Eugene Cook, one sister, Joy Ruth Polasek, and two grandchildren, Steven Whiles and Jennifer (Whiles) McKinney.

Memorial contributions may be made to Hospice of North Central Oklahoma, 1904 N. Union Suite 103, Ponca City, OK 74601.
