Marie Estus, resident of Lakeside, California, passed away on Tuesday, October 20, 2009 at Sharp Grossmont Hospital in La Mesa, California. She was 89.

Marie was born to Luther Hankins and Lula Jordan Hankins on December 27, 1919, in Ripley, Oklahoma. She attended Ripley High School and graduated with the class of 1937. She married George Estus on March 16, 1940 in Stillwater, Oklahoma. She was employed with Lee Labs for several years. Marie was a longtime member of the First Church of God in Ponca City until she moved to California in 1997. She enjoyed traveling, OU football and she especially loved spending time with her children, grandchildren, and great-grandchildren.

She is survived by her daughters, Joan Hanks of Dana Point, California and Gayla Ludlum of Lakeside, California; brother, Luther Hankins Jr. of Pampa, Texas and sister, Anita Palmer of Harlingen, Texas; grandchildren, Leslie Hanks Francis, David Hanks, Kimberly Ludlum Panico, Kasey Ludlum Pitchford and Kyle Ludlum; and seven great-grandchildren.

She is preceded in death by her parents; husband; infant daughter; two brothers and two sisters.

The formal visitation will be Tuesday evening from 6:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m. at Grace Memorial Chapel. The Funeral service will be held at 10:00 a.m., Wednesday, October 28, 2009, at Grace Memorial Chapel with Reverend Alan Popken officiating. Burial will follow at Resthaven Memorial Park Cemetery under the direction of Grace Memorial Chapel.
