Alice Earlene (McAllister) Condit, longtime resident of Ponca City, OK, died Saturday, June 2, 2018 while residing at the Ponca City Nursing Home, in Ponca City, OK.

Friends and loved ones may pay their respects at the funeral home from 1-8pm on Saturday, June 9, and Sunday, June 10. The family will greet friends from 2-4 p.m. Sunday at the funeral home. A funeral ceremony for Earlene will be held at 2:00 p.m. on Monday, June 11, 2018 at The First Christian Church in Ponca City, with Rev. Dr. Glenn Nestlerode officiating. Following the ceremony, Earlene will be laid to rest at Resthaven Memorial Park in Ponca City. Arrangements are under the direction of Trout Funeral Home and Crematory.

Earlene was the fifth and last child born to Floran Elmer 'Ned' and Elsie Margaret Case McAllister on February 14, 1929, in Bliss Township (now known as Marland), Noble County, OK. The older brother and three sisters were Donald McAllister, Mildred Ross, Ceola Andrews, and Florine Rice.

Earlene was born and raised during several critical eras in American history. First, born right before the 1930 major depression. As recovery from the depression was progressing, the Dust Bowl rolled across the central USA. These two events were then followed up with the bombing of Pearl Harbor in 1941, which led to World War II. She was part of the toughest generation of Americans to have ever lived.

On November 16, 1947, Earlene married Walter (Walt) Homer Condit, from Red Rock, OK. Walt and Earlene moved to 2000 Prospect, Ponca City, OK on a five-acre track north of the city.

Walt worked at the U.S. Post Office and Earlene established the Condit kitchen. Gardening was a major project in the household, and Earlene managed what came out of the garden, processed and canned the various vegetables and fruits for supplying the family's dinner table throughout the year.

Earlene enjoyed several fun-filled activities, as well. These included swimming, water skiing, camping, cooking, singing, and playing both the piano and accordion. During the 1950s and 1960s, the Letter Carrier Association would hold dance parties, and one was at a large barn north of Ponca City. Lights were strung up, the group filled the barn, and Earlene struck up the music on the accordion and folks danced the evening away. Accordion music was often heard wafting its way across Lake Ponca on warm summer evenings as well.

Earlene gave birth to David Wayne on January 23, 1950. Kathryn Joan was born 15 months later, April 30, 1951. A third child, Karyn Elaine was born October 15, 1955, completing the next generation of the Condit family.

In September 1961, with all three children in school, Earlene joined the kitchen staff at West Junior High School working in the dessert section. It was not long that she earned a name of making the BEST cinnamon rolls ever created on earth. Not only were these a tasty treat, but along with the many pies, cakes, and other delicious treats from the cafeteria, Earlene's reputation grew. She became very well respected by her fellow employees and managers and in 1973 she was promoted to the position of Manager of the Ponca City Senior High Cafeteria. She served in the school cafeterias for many years before retiring to spend more time with family and travels.

Earlene led a very busy and active life: Raising three children (this was probably the TOUGHEST thing); tending a large garden along with canning every summer; active member of the Sweet Adelines singing group; member of the First Christian Church; member of the adult choir at church; director of youth church choir; active member of the National Association of Letter Carriers Ladies' Auxiliary; member of the American School Food Service Association; founding member of the group serving meals at Friendship Feast at First Christian Church in Ponca; baked and decorated wedding cakes; served as a clerk on the Kay County Election Board.

Both Earlene and Walt were involved with the activities at The First Christian Church. Whether it was Sunday morning worship times, choir rehearsals, Boy Scouting activities, youth programs, or building programs at the church, you could always count on one or both to be there to support and help.

Earlene and Walt were an example of the ideal wife and husband. Each put each other above themselves. They both set a standard for their children to look up to and attempt to follow. Both put their love for God above all things which allowed everything else to fall into a beautiful picture. Because of their faith in God and trust in Jesus as their Lord and Savior, they are now reunited together once again.

Earlene was preceded in her death by her parents, her brother, her three sisters, and her husband. She is survived by her three children: David Condit and wife Tammy, Kathryn Megee, and Karyn Sledge and husband Stan. In addition, she has seven grandchildren and 15 great-grandchildren. She leaves behind many wonderful memories. She never met a stranger and loved being around people.

Memorial contributions may be made to Humanity Hospice, 1109 N Bryant Ave, Suite 100, Edmond, OK 73034 or to the First Christian Church of Ponca City, OK.
