Vernon Richard Arrington

Vernon Richard Arrington, longtime resident of Ponca City passed away Thursday, August 28, 2008 at his home. He was 82.

Vernon was born September 2, 1925 in Webb City, Oklahoma, the son of John Richard Arrington and Emma (Weigert) Arrington. Vernon was a graduate of Webb City High School. He served his country in the United States Army and served a tour of duty in Japan. He was married to Earline Phillips on November 21, 1947 in Ponca City. Vernon was a member of the American Legion, V.F.W. and Moose Lodge. His enjoyments included hunting, fishing, wood projects and spending special time with his family and friends.

He is survived by his wife, Earline, of the home; two sons, Kevin Arrington and wife, Laura, and Gerald L. Arrington and wife, Carla, all of Ponca City; two brothers, John Robert Arrington, Dumas, Texas, and Jess Lee Arrington, Stinnett, Texas; two sisters, Helen Hutchison of Modesto, California and Lucille Nissen of Martinez, Georgia; five grandchildren, Adam Arrington and wife, Traci, Kerri Stuckey and husband, Erik, Jared Arrington and wife, Nicole, Ricky Nelson, Alison Arrington and fiancée, Ryan Forsythe; eight great grandchildren, Conner Arrington, Lexie Arrington, Joshua Stuckey, Haley Stuckey, Corinne Nelson, Bailey Nelson, Taryn Nelson and Gabrielle Arrington; numerous nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his parents; one infant brother and one infant sister.

Funeral services will be held at 2 p.m. Tuesday, September 2, 2008 at Grace Memorial Chapel with the Second Baptist Church Pastor, Rev. Ken Newport, presiding. Interment will be in Resthaven Memorial Park Cemetery.

Casket bearers will be Adam Arrington, Jared Arrington, Ricky Nelson, Erik Stuckey, Ryan Forsythe, and Bill Cooper. Honorary casket bearers will be Teresa Dodson, Ken Miles and Leo Jueschke.

Memorial contributions may be made to the Ponca City Humane Society, P.O. Box 1671, Ponca City, Oklahoma 74602 or to the memorial fund of choice.
